Turlock Irrigation District - Walnut Energy Center
250 mw Combined Cycle
The Turlock Irrigation District (TID) is responsible for providing electric power to approximately 88,000 residential, business, and industrial accounts in a 662 square-mile service area in the San Joaquin River Valley of Central California. To insure that the current and future demands of TID’s expanding customer base are met, the Walnut Energy Center was constructed. The facility added 250-megawatts of Combined Cycle generation to TID’s network through the teaming up of two natural gas fired General Electric (GE) 7EA Combustion Turbines and one Alstom/Siemens ST6/5-C series Steam Turbine.
Our contract scope consisted of the installation the (2) GE Combustion Turbines, the Alstom/Siemens Steam Turbine, all the GE and Alstom/Siemens provided ancillary equipment and piping; a Holtec provided Steam Surface Condenser, (4) Flowserve provided Boiler Feed Water Pumps, and the setting of (2) PDC (Power Distribution Center) buildings. There were zero lost time injuries during the 12 months and 59,000 man-hours required to set this large equipment project.
