Fabrication
Midwest holds "A", "PP" and "R" Welding certifications. Through project pre-planning, Midwest will identify areas of piping, plumbing and sheet metal that can be pre-fabricated while other construction takes place. In October 2006, Midwest moved into our new 20,000+ square foot fabrication shop. The new Fab Shop has space for plumbers, pipe fitters and millwrights to prefabricate all phases of work. It's flexible layout allows for multiple weld stations, and has two, 3-ton cranes allowing larger projects to be pre-fabricated in our controlled environment.
Some of the fabrication that takes place in the Fab Shop includes equipment "skids" where pumps or other large pieces of equipment are pre-assembled with piping, valves and gauges attached. By building these equipment skids in the Fab Shop we are able to save on-site time and labor costs while at the same time controlling the quality. Once these skids are assembled, they are loaded on to flat bed trailers and trucked to the job site, whether it is in Kansas City or out of town.
When working outside of the Kansas City metropolitan area, wherever possible, Midwest establishes an on-site or nearby site fabrication facility, where our employees or subcontractors are able to produce quality segments of work that are racked and delivered to the construction site in time for installation. Midwest is able to control the environment, the quality and the production levels in our Fab Shop(s) and increase productivity by lowering the crew sizes on the job sites.
