Plant Representing Growth

Building For The Future

Light Bulb with Plant

Here at Midwest Mechanical Contractors, Inc. we have an obligation, not only to ourselves as employee-owners but to society as well, to create a culture and environment that is economically vibrant, dynamic in its growth goals and a positive contributor to a sustainable and healthly future. This is why we have made a sound commitment to enviromental responsibility and sustainable practices in our industry.

Being a national plumbing, heating and air conditioning contractor, gives us a tremendous opportunity to have a real impact on not only our own building, community and environment, but those communities throughout the country where we work every day. Below are just a few of the “green initiatives” Midwest has taken in an effort to make positive change.

Become active in the green community. We have joined local energy and environmental commitees such as the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Climate Protection Partnership Program.

Provide training and certification opportunities to our staff. To date, we have 27 LEED Accredited Professionals working for our customers and on our jobsites.

Institute a comprehensive recycling prgrams. We have teamed with local companies to recycle our paper, cardboard, cans and e-waste including old computers, monitors, and printer cartrdiges.

Implement a paperless accounting system. We have reduced paper consumption, decreased copier use and filing space all while streamlining business activity.

Implement a waste reduction plan. In addition, to our recycling programs we have eliminated disposabale cups in favor of mugs and beverage cups. We have also placed multiple water coolers in the office rather than bottled water.

Evaluate how we can reduce waste streams at construction sites. Reduce construction site waste by following Just-in-Time delivery, Lean Construction, and LEED priniciples.

There are many choices we can make in our business and personal lives that can have a positive impact. We will continue to evaluate our processes and operational decisions to ensure that we are doing the “right things” and providing the “right solutions” to our associates, clients and our environment.

USGBC LEED Logo

LEED is an internationally recognized certification system that measures how well a building or community performs across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.

Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.

USGBC Logo

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community of leaders working to make green buildings available to everyone within a generation.

With a community comprising 78 local affiliates, more than 20,000 member companies and organizations, and more than 100,000 LEED Accredited Professionals, USGBC is the driving force of an industry that is projected to soar to $60 billion by 2010. The USGBC leads an unlikely diverse constituency of builders and environmentalists, corporations and nonprofit organizations, elected officials and concerned citizens, and teachers and students.
